What are Termites and what do they look like?

termite inspections bergen county njTermites are small white or clear-colored insects that look like ants. They are not an ant genre and when spotted should be taken seriously. Termites are very invasive and can be damaging to your home. There are three types of Termites – dry wood Termites, damp wood Termites, and subterranean Termites. The most common type in New Jersey is the Eastern Subterranean Termite.  Termites are invasive pests and Your Home Inspector LLC can spot them and advise you on how to deal with the invasion.

How do Termites damage your house?

Termites thrive on eating wood and are very invasive pests. They can damage the outside as well as the interior of your home. The worst they can do is damage the foundation. Termites will infest any area of your house – floors, ceilings, roof, support beams, siding, eaves. Anyplace where wood is used in the construction of your house, Termites will invade. Your Home Inspector LLC, is a Bergen County homeowners’ best defense in the detection of Termite infestation. We inspect your home for evidence of a Termite invasion, and advise you as to the best course of action.

Can you prevent Termite invasion?

The best way to prevent an invasion of Termites is to take care of your house. Avoid allowing Termites access through broken or missing roof tiles or siding. Keeping a vigil for Termites includes seeing piles of insect wings, noticing hollow wood, seeing sagging floorboards. Mud tubes are created by Termites to keep moisture in their environment. These tubes are usually seen where the ground meets the edge of a structure. Termite droppings, or frass, appear as sawdust. These mounds of frass may be located below Termite entry access holes. Unfortunately, when signs of Termites are located, it usually means they have invaded and have probably caused damage. Call a home inspector and let them determine the extent of the problem. You probably can’t totally prevent a Termite invasion, but you can keep your house in the best condition possible, especially where wood is found.
